Manhattan

By Charlotte Bernhardt

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces bourbon or rye whiskey
  • 1 ounce sweet vermouth
  • 3 dashes Angostura® aromatic bitters
  • Brandied cherry for garnish

Procedure

Though you’ll now find it commonly made with bourbon, a Manhattan is traditionally made with rye, the much more popular whiskey in 19th century New York City, where the drink originated.

Build ingredients in a mixing glass with ice. Stir thoroughly and strain into a chilled coupe or cocktail glass. Garnish with a brandied cherry.
